Quilts and Covers
This group is dedicated to creating quilts that provide comfort for those served by a variety of charitable and service organizations in the Omaha area. Our guidelines say the finished quilts should be no less than 36”x36” and usually not larger than twin size. Some of the groups that have received our quilts are Boys Town, Sienna Francis House, Project Hope, various hospice houses, Police departments to keep in their cruisers, tornado victims and others in need.
The committee is comprised of a Chair that works with several members to manage the various components of this charitable arm of the guild.• Biannual Sew Days – Schedule, coordinate and manage the event – Becky Jensen• Quilt Kits – Select easy to sew patterns and schedule workdays for kit assembly – Jeanne LeBron• Quilt Finishing – Collect unfinished quilt tops and quilts, arrange for them to be quilted and bound as necessary.• Quilt Donations – Collect finished quilts and distribute to local groups based on their current needs.
We are always in need of quilters. We receive more quilt tops than we have quilters to quilt. If you would like to practice your quilting skills, keep us in mind, we can set you up. You don’t need a long arm; these can be done on a domestic machine, hand quilted or even tied. Nothing fancy is needed. Work on your walking foot quilting, practice using your quilting rulers, we just need them quilted. We have the tops, batting and backing ready to go. You can pick them up at the guild meetings, and delivery is available.
